Skateboard gear
Riding a half pipe involves skaters riding up vertical
walls, performing amazing tricks in the air and positioning themselves
for a smooth landing. Suffice to say, the whole process can be dangerous.
Whether riding off ramps or on a half pipe, wearing skateboard gear
like helmets and pads will greatly lower your risk of injury.
A helmet is the most important piece of safety skateboard gear¬–even
low-speed impacts can cause serious brain injuries. Skate helmets are
designed to protect the side of the head. Contrarily, bike helmets are
meant to protect the top of the head for an over-the-handle collision–which
is why it’s not recommended to wear bike helmets while skating.
Pads are also important skateboard gear to have, especially for the
beginning skater. Pads include but are not limited to: elbow, knee and
wrist guards–all of which help prevent injuries during a forward
fall.
