When a low-end skate deck costs $50, you know that skating is not the most inexpensive sport–but the good news is that you usually get what you pay for. However, it’s possible to get quality, cheap skateboards that are or past years’ models.
Some things to avoid when buying cheap skateboards:
• Do not buy decks from toy stores or superstores like Wal-Mart–these are made from poor-quality materials and will cause injuries when they break.
• Similarly, don’t buy decks with cartoon characters on them–those are made for children and not meant for serious skaters.
• Even if they are older models, make sure to buy a deck NEW. Putting a new skateboard together is fun!Buying cheap skateboards off the Internet is particularly easy since there are specialty sites dedicated to selling old decks at discount prices. Many Web sites also offer good packages that include the deck, trucks, wheels and grip tape.
